Discretionary Payment Help

Rent in Advance and Deposit from the Council

When applying for a place to rent, you will typically be asked to provide 1 months rent in advance and a deposit (ours is usually a 1 and a half months’ rent).

If you cannot afford this then you can apply to your council to see if you would be eligible for either a full or partial payment of the Rent in Advance and Deposit.

If you want to find out if you qualify, go to your council’s website and contact the relevant department to find out. If you are not sure who your council is, please follow the below link to find out:

When you fill in an application at a viewing and you are receiving council help with your Rent in Advance and Deposit, we would appreciate if you could provide us with the below:

  • The name of the council which is helping you
  • A council contact, someone who if you are successful, we can contact
  • Contact information for the council
  • How long it will take for the process to make a payment
  • The amount that they will pay

It is essential we have contact information so we can contact the council regarding your application. Without this, the process can take a lot longer.

If you are successful with your application, inform your council contact and give them our contact information, therefore they can get in contact with us.
